WHAT IS “PETER’S PENCE”?

Below is an excerpt from the Vatican website on Peter’s Pence and how you can help. Peter’s Pence is a DONATION that may be small in amount but has a profound symbolic value. It expresses LOVE AND TRUST in the Holy Father as the successor of Peter. It is a gesture of communion with the Holy Father; It is a concrete way of participating in his mission to bring the Gospel and to spread charity and hope throughout the world; It is a sign of belonging to and of sharing responsibility within the Church.

JOIN HIM IN HIS MISSION OF PEACE, HOPE, AND CHARITY

The Church has always been able to continue its work thanks, in part, to the generous contributions of countless people. Being grateful for the gift of faith these people have chosen to give something, according to their means. Even today, it remains a tangible expression of belonging to the Church and of participating in the universal mission of the Holy Father as the Successor of Peter. The offerings, freely donated by Catholics throughout the world, as well as by people of good will, constitute an important source of support for the Holy See.
