Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptised] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed
(Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285).

More on Confirmation

A continuance of what began at Baptism - a developing awareness of God's loving presence in our lives.
Gifts of Wisdom, Courage and Power are given to us by the Holy Spirit of God that we might become ambassadors for God in the world.

The Spirit alone enthuses, guides and directs our hearts in the wisdom and understanding of God. He alone inflames the spiritual life we have hidden in Christ. A life born of water and the holy Spirit and brought forth through the waters of sacramental baptism. A life empowered by His gifts to proclaim the Good News that God is with us – Immanuel and that He, Jesus Christ is Lord!

He is Lord because He preached the Good News in word and work, and though he was executed on the cross He rose from the dead. His chosen apostles and disciples were astonished to encounter Him Risen. It took 50 days of reassurance of this truth… that our life is changed not ended in Christ. As the day of Pentecost dawned, they received the outpouring of the holy Spirit and from that moment on this body of men and women became the visible presence of Christ and the holy Spirit; the Church. They took up the mission of preaching the Good News and baptising all who accepted the Good News Jesus Christ and who desired to live His transformative and unending life.

Receiving the outpouring of the holy Spirit in sacramental Confirmation is the moment we take our place alongside the apostles and disciples of Jesus at Pentecost and continue to complete the work of saving the world.

St. Ambrose on Confirmation

"Recall then that you have received the spiritual seal, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit of holy fear in God's presence. Guard what you have received. God the Father has marked you with his sign; Christ the Lord has confirmed you and has placed his pledge, the Spirit, in your hearts"
(De myst. 7, 42: PL 16).
