VOCATIONS

God calls all of us to live a life worthy of our dignity as his children. This is realisation expresses itself in an abundance of ways.

As single people, married people, becoming a father or mother, a teacher or catechist, a prophet, a doctor or nurse, a lawyer, the list could go on but there are also those who discover they are called to serving the Church as a minister as a permanent deacon, priest and yes bishop.

As such this life of service to the Church has uppermost as its priority the physical and spiritual wellbeing of local Catholic faith groups and communities and their overall contribution to the physical and spiritual wellbeing of the local church or diocese within the Universal Church of Christ.

Men and women can be called to dedicate their life to God by joining a religious order, such as becoming a monk or a nun or a religious society like the Jesuits or a missionary order tasked with creating building and sustaining faith communities in territories in need of evangelisation.

There are many religious orders, societies, congregations who undertake different missions, but all are centered on serving God and spreading Christ’s message.

A Christian's life is always one of discernment - discerning the will of the Father and it can't be done in isolation.

So too when it comes to discerning a life of ministry in holy Orders (ordained ministry) or as a religious.

If you feel you may wish to embark on a process of discerning your vocation to ministry or religious life then speak with your Parish Priest and/or contact our diocesan Vocations Director. These can guide you in your discernment.

There are often events organized by our diocesan Vocations Director, religious orders and seminaries (houses of formation) that can also help you in the discernment of your calling.
